Every band nerd in high school has this dream of becoming the director for their high school band. Very few actually do it.
This man is living that dream.
Many many many years ago Bob Haslehuhn graduated from Emporia High with the dream of coming back after college to be the director of bands.
Here he is under the Friday night lights of early fall smiling!
His band's half time show included:
Rock Around the Clock
Hand Jive
Charlie's Angels
The Twist
He was telling me about his passion for the privilege of directing the Star Spangled Banner. Every time he gets the honor he gets out a brand new pair of white gloves and uses them only one time. "Some sort of OCD, superstition," he says.
Along with living his dream he still directs the Tallgrass Big Band and plays in several local groups. Also, this year he is the president of the local teacher's union.
Represent, Mr. Buffalo. I know why you do what you do.
Oh. And the football game...The Emporia High Spartans managed to score two touchdowns in response to the Junction City Jays' 5 first half touchdowns. We left at the beginning of the fourth. Later I learned that EHS couldn't pull it out of the fire.
It happens.
