Sunday Movies

Every few weekends I get to stay home, instead of traveling to Wichita, Emporia or Omaha. Upon the occasion of spending a weekend at home with Mrs. B and the baby inside her we activate the tradition of movie watching.
I have been given the honor on the last few times of selecting the movies. This weekend was no different. Our movie selections this fine weekend were mostly comedic. We watched 'Run Fatboy Run'. From the studio that brought us 'Hot Fuzz' David Schwimmer directs a touching story of a man overcoming his fears and his fat to finish a marathon and win back the heart of baby mama and, accidentally all of London. Its a little goofy and cliche in spots but only in ways that make fun of the english, which to me is great fun. The end is worth the watch. For those of you with kids and/or expecting, it'll getcha chin quiverin.

That same night we watched a film by John Leguizamo called 'The Babysitters'. The rating is R because it is about a group of teenage girls who turn babysitting into a prostitution ring. Not bad. Kinda gets ya thinkin about the private lives of suburbanites. Not safe for the young viewer. It turned out to be more about discovering what is real inside ourselves and what we believe is right in regard to what we want from our lives. One thing for sure, pimpin aint easy.

The other two movies were 'Leather Heads' and 'Noise'. If you haven't seen either they are worth your time. The football movie is a Cohen esque story about the rise of pro-football told through the film making of George Clooney. He has skills. The dialogue gets a bit old after a while. All the use of the era greeting, 'say joe' gets me out of the movie and back into my own head. Scary right?

'Noise' stars Tim Robbins and is about a man who becomes a vigilante and begins breaking into cars just because their alarms are going off. Its supposed to be a comedy and some parts were funny. But in the end its a David & Goliath story about one man making a difference but doing it inside the system. In the process he gets kicked out of his home by his wife, spends some time in jail and has a threesome with a couple of good looking russian chicks who are championing his cause. It was funny but only in the way that makes you say, 'Ha. That was funny." Its effect on me was to make me want to disable the factory alarms on my vehicles asap. But, also, it makes me want to control my passions and continue with my causes.

This morning, while waiting for the chiefs game to begin we caught the tail end of 'Herby The Love Bug'. One of my favorite lines comes from this movie. When the tail end of the car is hanging over the cliff, the mechanic is standing in the sunroof and is told to not move. He says to the rest of his crew in reply, 'Is it ok if I just cry softly to myself?' Comedic timing rarely seen these days.
Thanks for reading. Go watch a movie or something.
