Christmas Traditions etc.

Like many people this year my family has re committed themselves to traditions of old and committed to those new traditions special to their nucleus. Its really no wonder that everyone seems to be focusing on doing those things together that can be called ritual or tradition.

Take for instance the century old ritual of going to see a new movie on either Christmas eve or Christmas day. My sister decided that her husband and kids should all go see that new Adam Sandler film, 'Bedtime Stories'. So, my folks and I all pitched in with gift certs to the Warren to help them kick off their special tradition and free ourselves of entertaining them for a half day.

Of course, many families have an existing tradition that has been renewed this year. It consists of grazing food items reserved for this special time of year and watching films like, 'Its a Wonderful Life' and 'Christmas Story'. My personal fave is to kick back with some eggnog and watch 'Christmas Vacation'.

My family and I got together on Christmas eve, cooked wantons, opened presents early, and posed for pictures in front of the tree. Just like old times. Our new tradition for Christmas day has been a heaping portion of my mother's fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy followed up with a rousing game of train dominos and stocks and bonds.

Whatever your tradition, I hope you find the true spirit of this season deep in your heart and renew your commitment to being with loved ones and enjoying those traditions that bind us together in love.
Merry Christmas to all!
